Cookie Policy

Overview

This cookie policy explains what cookies and similar technologies are used on personica.net, why we use them, and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy, which provides a broader explanation of how we handle your data.

Personica is designed to minimise data collection. We do not set any first-party cookies. The cookies described on this page are set by third-party services (Google Analytics and Google AdSense) and are governed by your consent choice via our cookie banner.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites store on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) through your browser. They serve various purposes: remembering preferences, tracking usage patterns, enabling advertising, and maintaining session state. Cookies can be "first-party" (set by the website you are visiting) or "third-party" (set by external services embedded in the page, such as analytics or advertising platforms).

In addition to cookies, Personica uses your browser's localStorage — a separate storage mechanism that keeps data on your device without sending it to any server. localStorage entries are not cookies, but we describe them here for complete transparency.

Personica implements Google Consent Mode v2 to manage cookie consent. When you first visit the site, all cookie categories are denied by default. No analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or personalisation cookies are set until you make an explicit choice via the consent banner.

The banner offers two options:

Accept all: Grants consent for analytics cookies (Google Analytics), advertising cookies (Google AdSense), ad user data collection, and ad personalisation. Google may then set cookies to measure site traffic and serve personalised advertisements.

Essential only: Keeps all categories denied. Google Analytics does not collect data from your session. Google AdSense operates in non-personalised mode, serving contextual ads based on page content rather than your browsing history. No advertising or analytics cookies are set.

Your consent choice is stored in your browser's localStorage (not in a cookie) under the key personica-consent. It persists across sessions until you clear your browser data or reset it manually.

localStorage entries (not cookies)

Personica uses localStorage for three purposes. These entries never leave your device and are not transmitted to any server:

personica-consent — Stores your cookie consent preference ("granted" or "denied"). Persists until you clear browser data.

personica-theme — Stores your theme preference (light, dark, or system). Persists until you clear browser data.

personica-test-progress — Auto-saves your answers during the standard 50-item personality test so you can resume if interrupted. Automatically expires after 24 hours.

No personally identifiable information is stored in any of these entries.

Analytics cookies (optional)

If you accept cookies, Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID: G-J6MNGWFEY4) sets cookies to measure aggregate site traffic and user engagement. These cookies help us understand which pages are visited most frequently, how users navigate the site, and where people drop off — information we use to improve the platform.

Common Google Analytics cookies include:

_ga — Distinguishes unique users. Expires after 2 years.

_ga_[container-id] — Maintains session state. Expires after 2 years.

These cookies are governed by Google's Privacy Policy. If you decline cookies, these are never set.

Advertising cookies (optional)

If you accept cookies, Google AdSense (publisher ID: ca-pub-2335913078491957) may set cookies to serve personalised advertisements based on your browsing history across the web. These cookies are managed entirely by Google and its advertising partners.

Common advertising cookies include cookies from doubleclick.net, googlesyndication.com, and google.com domains. Their names and lifespans vary and are determined by Google's ad-serving infrastructure.

If you decline cookies, AdSense still operates — but in non-personalised mode, serving ads based on the content of the page you are viewing rather than your personal browsing profile. No advertising cookies are set in this mode.

For details on how Google uses advertising data, see Google's Advertising Policies.

Managing your cookie preferences

You can change your cookie preference at any time using any of these methods:

Clear site data: In your browser's settings, clear stored data for personica.net. The consent banner will reappear on your next visit, allowing you to make a new choice.

Console command: Open your browser's developer console (usually F12 → Console tab) and run PersonicaConsent.reset(). This clears your stored consent preference and reloads the page with the consent banner.

Browser-level cookie controls: Most browsers allow you to block third-party cookies globally or on a per-site basis. This will prevent Google Analytics and AdSense cookies regardless of your consent banner choice. Note that this may also affect functionality on other websites.

Google's ad settings: You can opt out of personalised advertising across all Google-served ads at Google Ad Settings.

Google Fonts

Personica loads typefaces from Google Fonts. When your browser requests a font file, Google's servers receive your IP address and standard request headers. Google Fonts does not set cookies, but the font request itself constitutes a data transfer. For details, see Google Fonts Privacy FAQ.

Changes to this policy

We may update this cookie policy to reflect changes in our practices or in applicable law. The current version is always available at personica.net/cookies/. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates the most recent revision. If we make changes that require re-consent, we will update the consent banner version number, which will prompt you to review and re-confirm your preference.
